John Anner

John Anner is the President of the East Meets West (EWM) Foundation since early 2002. He has spent his whole career in the non-profit and social change sector, starting with two years working in agriculture in rural West Africa in the early 1980s. He has worked in Central America as well as Africa and Asia. John led the development of EWM’s clean water, education and health care programs in Vietnam.  John has also led the expansion of EMW from Vietnam to Laos, Cambodia, East Timor, India and the Philippines. John has led efforts to build partnerships with many Vietnamese-American organizations, including Friends of Hue, Pacific Links, VSVN, and VN Help.

Prior to EMW, John was the Publications Director at the Center for Third World Organizing for seven years where he founded and published Third Force magazine (now called ColorLines), and then the founding director of the Independent Press Association until he started at EMW. He also worked as the executive editor of Nicaraguan Perspectives magazine. He holds an MS in International Development from UC Davis.
