Dr. Ngoc Quang Chu

Ngoc Quang Chu, DDS, FICD, FADI is currently in private practice in Bethesda and Gaithersburg, Maryland. He is a clinical assistant professor in the post graduate prosthodontics program at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, University of Maryland Dental School where he obtained his doctorate in 1988, and subsequently completed his prosthodontics training there in 1990.

Using his experiences as a Vietnamese Boat People refugee, Dr. Chu has traveled extensively the last 24 years to provide free dental care to underserved populations in the United States and around the world.

Dr. Chu is a member of the American Dental Association and the Maryland State Dental Association, the American College of Prosthodontics, the Academy of Osseointegration and is an instructor for the Southern Maryland Dental Society. He served as Vice President for the Vietnamese Medical Society of Northeast America and President of the Vietnamese Professional Society. Dr Chu also serves on the advisory board of the Vietnamese American Dental Association, a national dental organization.

Dr. Chu is the founding member of My-Hope.org, a nonprofit organization promoting medical and dental care to the underserved worldwide and a founding member of VOICE, a non-governmental organization which assists in the relocation of stateless Vietnamese in the Philippines and combats human trafficking in Cambodia.

Dr. Chu served on the advisory board for the Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Association and the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans for Democrats. His activities and accomplishments have been duly recognized by national dental professional societies and he has been elected as fellow of the American College of Dentists in 2003. In 2005, he was recognized by the Academy of Dentistry International for his international works. In 2009, Dr. Chu was elected into the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international dental honor society.

In 2008, he was appointed by the Governor of Maryland as the first AAPI to serve on the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners. He will serve as President of the Dental board starting in 2012. Dr. Chu also served on the AAPI advisory council for the Attorney General of the state of Maryland.

Dr. Chu was the first Asian American to hold the positions of second Vice Chair and Treasurer of the Maryland State Democratic Party. In 2008, Dr. Chu was chosen as Democrat of the Year by the Maryland state Democratic Party and received the 2008 Champion of Working Families award by Progressive Maryland.
